What is Better than free?
Que Tal Arbor Lodge HC!
This Wednesday evening is a free concert in Penninsula Park. Connie Biebrarch and Armonia Latina are going to be playing at 6:30PM. The plan is to meet at the park around 6:30 for a little picinic and some free music. Bring a blanket, some food, maybe even a lawn chair. The music should last a couple of hours. If you have any questions give me a call. (503) 544-3841.
PS: Miranda's, could you post a note on your door just in case people show up? Just let them know where we are.
Have a great week! Juany

Wednesday July 25th
HC,
This week we have several people that are unable to attend Wednesday night festivities. (This includes our usual hosts, the Miranda's) I suggest taking the week off. If someone out there cannot live without their HC fix for Wednesday please give me a call and let me know. The other option is meeting somewhere else and having a BBQ/fellowship evening. Unless I hear from someone please consider the 25th cancelled. I will post any changes before Wednesday. Please call me with any questions or concerns. Thanks!

anyone like to read?
hey everyone...
i've been thinking about starting a "book club" for awhile now and was wondering if anyone would be interested. i envision it to be a casual, weeknight gathering complete with wine and snacks and riveting conversation over here at the barkers. send me an e-mail if you have any interest (and let me know what type of books you really enjoy, or even if there are certain one's you hate... maybe we can at least avoid those!) also, this is by no means an exclusive north portland home community event... if you know of anyone else that might be interested, extend the invitation. if enough interest is expressed, we'll give this a try! and if not, i'll have to go recruit some more literary friends... :)
thanks,
abbie

Wednesday July 18th
I Know it was suposed to be a fellowship week, but we have a great opportunity to help out a new program in North Portland. Free lunches in the park (or "Project summer") have been going on for a while in several parks throughout Portland, but they just started a new one at Pier Park in St. John's. They haven't had the turn out that they had planned so were going to help spread the word in the community. We will be meeting at our house (the Miranda's) at 6:30pm and leave from here at 6:45pm (we need to be at Pier Park by 7pm). We are going to be distributing door hangers around the neighborhood in hope that the turn out rises. There's no soliciting involved, just hanging flyers. It may be raining so bring your umbrellas, rain jackets or just get a little wet. Don't forget to wear your walking shoes because we are going to get our exercise. It should take about an hour or so then we can hang at our house afterwards. Hope to see you all there. The more people that help out the faster we get done. Call us if you have any questions 503.493.8765.

Girls just wanna have fun!
Okay ladies. . . So we can't just let the guys have all the fun this summer with their little canoe trip. I think it is time to plan up a little "girls only" weekend. I propose we take advantage of the beautiful summer and head down for a weekend at the coast. We can use the family beach house in Manzanita for a fun, cheap weekend. The big question is . . .When? I know people's summer weekend fill up very fast so I was thinking sometime toward the middle of September. Let me know what you ladies think. It should be a great time!
Save the date
The Imago Dei BBQ and Baptism is coming up on July 29th. The event starts at 10am with an outdoor worship service followed by yummy food and festivities. Just wanted to get the date up so people can mark it on their calendars. It is a great time to fellowship with the larger Imago Dei community and it would be fun to see you all out there.

If anyone is interested
Our realtor sent us a invitation to a dance to help fight hunger. Here it is:
Dance to Fight Hunger
According to the US Census Bureau, more than one out of five children
live below the poverty line. And 13.8 million children reside in “food insecure
homes.” Studies have proven time again that malnourished children are likely
to suffer life-long “brain, cognitive, and psychological impairments.” It’s not
just that these children are going hungry-they’re also lacking any semblance
of proper nutritional balance.
But there’s a way we can help.
Come and join us for a fun filled evening and help us raise money for The Serve First Foundation.
If you’re not able to attend you can send a donation. Everything counts.

If anyone is interested I can send you a attachment with the flyer. It's on July 22nd for $12 or $10 w/a can of food. Kids $3.

7/18 Wednesday
gang--
Glaspeys will be in MT for the upcoming HC. I know it is a "fellowship" night, but I talked to a girl that could use some help in the neighborhood.
Annie Kirschner is in charge of "project summer" which does like the free meals for kids in the parks in the summer and stuff. Her name and contact info was in last weeks bulletin, so I emailed her to find out if there was anything we as an HC could do.
here is an excerpt from our convo:

Another thing that pops to mind is that there is a park (again in North Portland) that has requested that we help hang some door hangers in the neighborhood, as they've not been getting as many kids as they expected for lunch. If you were interested in helping tomorrow evening with that, it would be GREAT, or else possibly next Wednesday (which is the 18th) if that's too short notice. This could be done as a group and I would go with you, and we would just walk around the neighborhood in small groups hanging the flyers (but not knocking or harassing people :).
Feel free to give me a call at 503-517-2099 during the day or 503-239-6518 after 1pm and we can talk more about what you are hoping for, and what will work best with your group.
Thanks again for your interest and I hope that we'll be able to connect you guys to a site that fits well!
Can someone take the lead on this?
J and I are out as of the 14th, through the 21st. Even if we don't do it the 18th there may be other things we can do. I think there is an evening meal we can help with at New Columbia, which would be rad.
thanks guys.

Sunday, July 1st
If you didn't make it to church July 1st...I'd like to invite EVERYONE to listen to the service online. It's about living authentic community. Something I think we, as a group, could learn a lot from. It's inspiring and awakening.

Wednesday's Mission
So this Wednesday we will be gathering at our house (the Miranda's) at 6:30pm. At around 7pm we will all pile in as few cars as we can and head out to grab garbage. We are cleaning up a street in North Portland. Our first site of garbage cleanup this summer is going to be on North Minnesota St between Killingsworth and Alberta. This area is a giant eye sore to all who are exiting and entering the freeway at Alberta. It's going to be a dirty job so don't wear your Sunday's best, wear grubby clothes!!!! Also since garbage isn't clean at all, you may want to wear some sort of gloves unless you don't mind picking up other people's trash with your bare hands. There's also another option instead of gloves, you can buy yourself a picker (Lowes and Home Depot have them) for a little under 20 bucks. Giant garbage bags provided!! Remember to bring lots of water because it is suposed to be near 100 degrees.
After we are done we'll head back to the house for a friendly game of 4 square and hydration. Ball Provided!!!!! See you soon. Call us if there's any questions. 503.493.8765
